Funniest post of the night

. . . has to be Howard Bashman’s, describing his search for Supreme Court bobblehead dolls:

Developing a secondary market in U.S. Supreme Court Justice bobblehead dolls: “Milbarge” of the “Begging The Question” blog wants to acquire them and is apparently willing to pay the price. As someone with experience in this area, let me observe that you can’t simply mention desiring to own a U.S. Supreme Court bobblehead doll and expect them to start crawling out of the woodwork. Nope, it takes extended effort to get them to materialize, as my earlier posts here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here demonstrate. Thanks to that hard work and the thoughtfulness and generosity of this blog’s readers, I am the proud beneficiary of two Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist bobblehead dolls. And thanks to my subscription to The Green Bag, I am the proud owner of one Justice John Paul Stevens bobblehead doll. I still don’t own a Justice Alan C. Page bobblehead doll, however.

As an added bonus, click on this link to hear NPR’s Nina Totenberg having fun with her Chief Justice Rehnquist bobblehead doll (Real Player required).

One of the many “here”s linked above is Bashman’s offhandedly hilarious reference to his belovèd Rehnquist bobblehead doll:

“Ashcroft’s Folly: How the attorney general lost the Moussaoui trial before it began.” Dahlia Lithwick is back, with this essay just posted online at Slate. And while you’re at it, go buy her book; you can get many copies for the cost of just one Chief Justice Rehnquist bobblehead doll, and the book is quite funny, which more than makes up for its lack of bobbleheadedness.

I doubt that I ever would have come up with “Supreme Court bobblehead dolls” as a subject for an extended joke over many posts, but I think it’s brilliant. Hats off to Bashman. Hats off also to him for providing one of the most densely information-packed sources of news that you’ll find anywhere on the Net — if you’re looking for information about what’s happening in the nation’s appellate courts, that is. If you want hot Asian action, I doubt you’ll find any information about that anywhere on the Net, and certainly not on Bashman’s site.
